Apple is preparing for their big fall event in September 2024, where they’re expected to unveil the new iPhone 16 series and the latest iOS 18. This series will come with iOS 18, the latest version of their operating system.
However, one of the highly anticipated features, Apple Intelligence, might not be available in the first version of iOS 18. It seems like Apple might delay it until iOS 18.1, which should come out in October. But even then, not all Apple Intelligence features will be available by October 2024. Some of them, like the major update to Siri and its integration with OpenAI, are expected to roll out in 2025.
Aside from this, there have been plenty of rumors and leaks about the upcoming iPhone 16 series. Here’s what we know so far.
iphone 16: Design and colours
A recent leak has given us a sneak peek at the colors and back panel design of the upcoming iPhone 16. The new design is expected to have some noticeable changes. The standard iPhone 16 will have two cameras aligned vertically, similar to the iPhone X and iPhone 11. However, this time the cameras will be in a capsule-shaped camera island, giving it a fresh look.
These leaks, shared by a reliable source, suggest significant design changes. But we’ll have to wait for the official launch to see if these predictions are accurate.
Images of iPhone 16 dummy units have appeared on X (formerly Twitter), showing five color options: White, Black, Blue, Green, and Pink. The Green color seems richer and the Blue looks similar to the one from the iPhone 5c. These colors are likely for the standard iPhone 16 model, and probably for the larger “Plus” variant as well.
iPhone16: chipset
The new iPhone 16 series is expected to come with Apple’s latest A18 Pro chip, made using advanced 3nm technology by TSMC. This powerful chip will allow the phones to have more advanced machine learning and AI features in iOS 18, making the overall iPhone experience even better.
For storage and memory, the Pro and Pro Max models might offer up to 2TB of storage, which is double what the previous models had. The standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models are expected to have 8GB of RAM, an upgrade from the 6GB in the iPhone 15 series. This means they will perform better and handle multitasking more smoothly.
Battery life (Expected)
The new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have larger batteries, with the iPhone 16 getting a 6% boost and the Pro Max a 5% increase in capacity. However, the iPhone 16 Plus might have a 9% smaller battery. To manage the power needs, Apple may use stacked battery technology to improve energy density and battery life.
Charging is also set to get better. The iPhone 16 series might support 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging, meaning your phone will charge faster than before.
iPhone 16: Expected camera upgrade
Apple is expected to make some big upgrades to the camera system on the iPhone 16 models. The standard iPhone 16 will have a new vertical camera design with a pill-shaped bump, moving away from the diagonal look of the iPhone 15. This design will include separate rings for the Wide and Ultra Wide lenses and will support Spatial Video recording, a feature that was previously only available on the Pro models. This means the standard iPhone will have more advanced camera features.
The iPhone 16 Pro models are also set to get major improvements. The Ultra Wide lens is expected to be upgraded to 48 megapixels, which will improve how well it performs in low light and allow for sharper images. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is likely to get a new periscope telephoto camera, which will boost optical zoom to 5x, offering better zoom capabilities and image quality than before.
Apple Intelligence
The first version of iOS 18 might not include the Apple Intelligence feature, but it will still bring several new and improved features. The update will offer more ways to customize your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. You’ll be able to place app icons and widgets anywhere, even above the dock, and apply visual effects like dark or tinted themes to change the look.
The Photos app is getting a major redesign, with a new layout that brings all your photos into one view. There will be new collections and a carousel to highlight your favorite photos. The Control Center will also be updated for quicker access to your most-used controls and will support third-party apps.
The Messages app will include satellite messaging, so you can stay connected without cellular or Wi-Fi. iMessage will get new text effects, formatting options, and message scheduling. A new feature, Apple Intelligence, will use advanced models to enhance language understanding and image creation, making the user experience more relevant and useful.
Keep in mind that these details are based on speculation and leaks, so they might not be completely accurate.

iPhone 16 launch event was a bit of a disappointment since other than the new A18 6-core chipset + 48MP camera + wifi 7 and 4k @ 120fps recording (Samsung already had it on S24 Ultra) we did not get anything else… And the whole AI is not even live…And that camera button that is very uncomfortable for portrait shots. One major camera improvement – low light photo performance!
Unless you are upgrading from iPhone 11 or earlier models, it does not make sense to go for 16 pro models this time. Wait for another year.
